Metron Leadership

Celebrating Over 40 Years

Mr. Mark A. Piersma, President & Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Piersma is an enterprising senior executive with an impressive track record of leading a vertically integrated healthcare system to profitability, despite times of severe attacks to his empire’s brand. A talented strategist and dealmaker, he has significantly grown shareholder value and created exceptional teams. Mr. Piersma's leadership experience in areas of planning, development and management have played an integral part in the success of the organization. Upon graduation from Michigan State University where he received his Bachelor of Science in Psychology, and a Master of Science in Public Administration from Western Michigan University, Mr. Piersma served as the Licensed Nursing Home Administrator for Metron of Big Rapids. Mr. Piersma learned the sub-acute rehabilitation business from the ground up. Recognizing his talents, the company saw a place for him as its Chief Executive Officer. In this senior leadership role, Mr. Piersma has virtually reinvented every aspect of his father’s, Marvin L. Piersma, company making it a more vibrant quality system while restoring the exceptional branding that his father established … Caring for People. Mr. Piersma reminds us that sometimes the reputation outlives the reality and reputation doesn’t get better on its own. This is what keeps him committed to community and committed to providing an excellent quality health care alternative for the people his team serves. This is evident in the community leadership volunteering opportunities of Mr. Piersma. Mr. Piersma is currently serving on the Board of Directors at the Health Care Association of Michigan (HCAM), previously served on the Boy Scout's Gerald R. Ford Council, and a participant in Leadership Grand Rapids an executive enrichment program sponsored by the Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce.
